He was a rich merchant;He owned stores from Augusta to Clarksboro;The indians
called him "Ready Money Stewart";He was the first to leave Virginia in 1783
He carried with him to Georgia a letter from Mr.Gains introducing him as a
surveyor.He was also a Revolutionary Veteran. He is suppose to be buried at
Cherry Hill along with the General and Governor Floyd. The Generals wife's
Half brother!

Stewart Clan Magazine, Tome F, p 195: Quote:
On Jan. 4th, 1784, James Stewart of Amherst Co., Virginia, "being about to remove with my family to the state of Georgia, do constitute and appoint Daniel Gaines and John Stewart, Jr., to be my attorney," etc. End quote. This was witnessed by Henry Gilbert, Patrick Reynolds, Judith Gilbert, and Mourning Floyd.
(Note Mourning and John were married six weeks later.)
